Oscar Night, March 7, 2010: The Red Carpet is the fashion runway of the year! This year was a return to Old Hollywood glamour: long gowns with trains in pale colours like Best Actress award winner Sandra Bullock; The Blind Side, vibrant blues like Best Supporting Actress Mo’Nique; Precious, or dynamic red dresses in support of Heart Health awareness. There were a few black gowns which always look sophisticated but it is always the colourful dresses that get the most attention; unless you are Angelina Jolie who wore a simple black gown to 2009’s Academy Awards with those 32 carat Emerald earrings! Now there’s a style statement: simple clothes; outstanding jewelery. This year, Sandra Bullock was criticized by Stlyist to the Stars, Randolf Duke for having too bright of lipstick with her exquisitely glamorous gown. Sandra’s complexion was flawless with outstanding black liner and fushia lips; her hair was elegantly coifed with a strong part, one shoulder of hair in the front and one in the back. I too agree that the lip colour was a bit strong but maybe Sandra wanted that Old Hollywood glamour look? Maybe she didn’t want to look quite as modern and preferred a more traditional image. Either way, Sandra looked stunning and her acceptance speech was heartfelt, witty and touching. Well done Sandra!
Just finished watching the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Team Canada men and women hockey teams take gold. Men take gold in curling. The list of 14 gold medals goes on…the most gold medals won by any previous hosting country. What an amazing success for our Canadian athletes. The entire country cheered, supported and watched with great anticipation. Canadians showed their belief, enthusiasm and heart for their athletes and their country. Our image worldwide is warm, spirited and glowing hearts of champions! They believe and I believe and we all believe! I am in awe of our athletes, the volunteers, the organizers and the games in general. So proud to be Canadian and to host the world. Today marks the end of Vancouver 2010 Olympics. I learned to triumph over tragedy. That requires the heart of a champion; tell me how the Games inspired you.
You’re kidding me!? Spring 2010 trend is to wear your bra on the outside? or at least show your cones on the outer layer of your outfit? second biggest spring trend: hotpants! that’s those really short shorts. honestly, who really wears this? Obviously models and hollywood stars. is it for you? Although it will garner you attention, make no mistake about it, this is not for the office! Nor is it for volunteering at the school, playing with your grandkids or shopping in the mall. Underwear as outerwear may have been strong on the Spring 2010 runways but I have yet to figure out how the average, or for that matter, above average woman is going to incorporate it into her daily wardrobe. Of all the clients over the last year, only the under 25’s who are toned and slim might get away with this fashion trend for a hot date or to a club. Even the over 40 crowd will be sure to get snickers of being a “cougar”! One thing is for sure, it makes me feel that some fashion trends are only intended for the famous and the slim. Not intended for the “real” woman who goes about her life out of the spotlight. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject!
Colour itself has energy. On Valentine’s Day, add some heat with the colour red. Red is suggestive, sultry yet can come across as aggressive. I’m not suggesting you “should” be aggressive. I’m just sayin’ that the colour red could turn up the heat when the time is right.
Wear a sensual red top in a fabric like satin or silk that is soft to “pet”! The idea is to invite being touched by wearing something touchable.
Wear your red top with dark denim jeans and the highest heel you can. Leave the baggage of a large purse at home. Swap it for a handheld clutch to place neatly in front of you at the restaurant table. Of course a little red dress is always appropriate for Valentine’s Day and you’ll be celebrating heart month as well.
Add red lip gloss, black eyeliner and 2 coats of mascara for a quick yet effectively suggestive look. Keep your makeup simple when sporting come hither lip colour. You’ll be ready in a heart beat following these easy tips of how to wear red for Valentine’s Day!
